Open adoption

Roundup of blog posts on open adoption. Common theme: It can be difficult, but it's worth it because otherwise you're not acknowledging something that is likely to be very important to your child. One blogger made the point that if she weren't open about it, her daughter would probably feel she couldn't ask and would resent her parents for it.

  1. I'd never really thought about that before -- what it would be like to be an adoptive parent when the birth parents are still very much in the picture.

A friend of mine adopted her daughter through a closed adoption, but she and her husband spent a lot of time with the birth parents leading up to the birth. She said it felt really weird when the baby was born and handed over and the birth parents more or less vanished from their lives.
