100 best teen novels, according to NPR

NPR's list of the 100 Best Teen Novels! I think we need to read every single one of these.

  1. I've read a bunch of these! And am on the wait list for several more at the library. In the past couple years, I've read An Abundance of Katherines, Delirium, A Great and Terrible Beauty, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, the Chaos Walking trilogy, and Feed. Although out of those, I was only impressed with Miss Peregrine and the Chaos Walking books, so not sure how much cred I give the list. Some of the selections look pretty terrible (#39: Vampire Academy Series, and #66: Bloodlines Series, I'm looking at you -- surely these are CW TV shows in the making?). If you want to read any of these, let me know and we can book club!

  2. Divergent! If you haven't read this and it's sister book
Insurgent, I would definitely recommend them to anyone. The Hunger Games created within me a desire to find out what happens on the next Page. Divergent made me want to find out what happens in the next sentence. I'm anxiously awaiting the publication of the 3rd book of the trilogy

I feel that books like To Kill a Mockingbird and Lord of the Flies aren't necessarily popular with the teens, they're just required reading in High School.

    1. Thanks for the recommendation! Just looked up Divergent on Amazon -- it does look like a must-read. That's going on my list.

Looking at the article, it seems like the voting was open to everyone (not just teens, although the category was "teen novels"), which may explain some of the less teen-friendly selections. Although I don't think I've ever known anyone, teen or adult, who cited "Lord of the Flies" as one of their favorite books.

    2. Ohh the misleading headlines of our times. I guess the title is perfectly accurate, it just makes me think that it's the teen's favorites.

And I agree, I have never heard someone say they absolutely loved Lord of the Flies. School books don't usually make it onto kids list of favorite books years later. Although I have heard one or two say they liked books like A Tale of Two Cities and Crime and Punishment (both required at my school).
