Emily Henderson on choosing a color palette, via Apartment Therapy. I am terrible at this kind of thing, and found it really helpful that she included picture examples, both good and bad. (Especially the bad ones helped -- it's hard for me to look at a nice room and figure out why I like it.)
Nice article. When we were setting up our place, S and I had some disagreements about the color palette, and one thing that helped me refine my "vision" and get S on board was taking paint chips that matched the walls, the rug, the couch, and any other elements that were non-changeable, and seeing what other colors would mix in well. This was super-helpful, for instance, in convincing S that burnt orange would be a much better "warm" color in our space than his first choice of red.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about it being hard to look at a nice room and figure out why you like it. I also feel the same way about outfits. Although, oddly, getting more of a sense of what I like for one seems to be helping with the other.
That's a great idea! We should try that in our living room, which is sort of a mishmash of furniture and stuff. Although, I can't see getting rid of any of that stuff in the near future, so maybe it's pointless... but the room is in need of a coat of paint.
